Oh yes, we could have a little service, I can bring some of my brownies and I guess someone should sing Ave Maria, I mean I could do it, whatever.

During the study group's third year at Greendale, Star-Burns was thought to have died in a meth lab explosion. A wake was to be held in his honor in the cafeteria and Shirley was eager to perform the song Ave Maria. However, later at the event Garrett got to the podium before Shirley could. He belted out his rendition of the song which mesmerized the audience in attendance with its awfulness. When Pelton called on Shirley to take the stage for her song she angrily declined. "Ave Maria" was also heard in the Season Four episode "Intro to Felt Surrogacy".

Lyrics[]

Original song[]

Ave Maria gratia plena,
Maria gratia plena,
Maria gratia plena.
Ave ave Dominus.
Dominus te-cum.
Benedicta tu in mulieribus.
Et benedictus.
Et benedictus fructus ventris,
Ventris tui Iesus.
Ave Maria.

Ave Maria Mater Dei.
Ora pro nobis pecatoribus.
Ora ora pro nobis.
Ora ora pro nobis peccatoribus.
Nunc et in hora mortis.
In hora mortis nostrae.
In hora mortis mortis nostrae.
In hora mortis nostrae.
Ave Maria.

Ave Maria gratia plena.
Maria gratia plena.
Maria gratia plena.
Ave ave Dominus.
Dominus te cum.
Benedicta tu in mulieribus.
Et benedictus.
Et benedictus fructus ventris,
Ventris tui Iesus.
Ave Maria.

Trivia[]

Song origin[]

"Ave Maria" is a traditional Catholic prayer known in the English language as the "Hail Mary". The verses have been set to music in a number of different songs, the most well known version being from Charles Gounod. It used Johann Sebastian Bach's 1722 composition "The Well-Tempered Clavier" .

The translation from Latin to English is as follows:

Mother of God and Virgin, rejoice, Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, for thou hast given birth to the Saviour of our souls.
