Bob Waite is the head custodian at Greendale Community College. He is a politically savvy head custodian who’s not afraid to get his hands dirty but is smart enough to wear rubber gloves. Bob has to contend with Annie Edison and her Criminology teacher Professor Hickey who are navigating Greendale’s corridors of power. He is portrayed by actor Nathan Fillion.

History

Season Five

Bob Waite meets Annie and Professor Hickey at a custodial mixer and recognizes their names from the work order they submitted to have a bulletin board rehung. They want to expedite the process after hearing it could take up to six months. Waite shows them his computer which displays a "banned website" message and explains that a lot of the websites his department likes to visit are blocked at work. Waite then suggests that if Annie and Hickey are able to remove the web restrictions he will move their work order to the top of the queue. After some wheeling and dealing, Annie finds a way to have the restrictions lifted but decides it isn't worth the favors along the way. Later, Waite is shown trying to access one of his preferred websites but it remains blocked.("Analysis of Cork-Based Networking")

Season Six

In the 2015 semester at Greendale, Bob Waite makes an appearance at the secret Speakeasy created by members of the Save Greendale Committee. He was seen in a corner booth talking with Jeff Winger. He was trying to cut some kind of deal and offering the services of his custodial crew to clean the bar. Waite also seemed to be trying to leverage the deal by threatening to expose Jeff's operation if he didn't agree. Jeff asked if he was trying to blackmail him but Bob simply said he was just talking shop ("Ladders").

Name origin

The name "Bob Waite"is a reference to comedian/actor Bobcat Goldthwait, a friend of Harmon's. Goldthwait would later direct a few episodes of Community in Season Six.

Fillion was in the neighborhood as his ABC show "Castle" was filming next door on the same Paramount lot where Community is shot.
