Carol Kolb is an American comedy writer originally from Madison, Wisconsin. In 1996 she graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Madison earning degrees in English and education. She was hired a writer for the Wisconsin based satirical newspaper "The Onion" and eventually became its editor-in-chief. Kolb later was made the head writer for the "Onion News Network", a televised version of the newspaper. It aired on IFC and began airing on January 1, 2011 until being cancelled on March 21, 2012. She moved on to other projects including serving as a writer on "Kroll Show" before joining the writing staff of "Community".
