In the Study Group's third year at Greendale, Abed was encouraged to tell a Horror story during Britta's pre-Halloween party. It featured an instrumental song called "Daybreak" that he hummed in the middle of his narration. Only Troy enjoyed hearing this as everyone else, particularly Pierce, was annoyed and wanted Abed to finish his tale. The infectious melody was later hummed by some of the other study group members over the years and also played on the campus radio by Neil. It was first heard in the Season Three episode "Horror Fiction in Seven Spooky Steps".

Trivia[]

  • The song "Daybreak" is a Jazz melody written and performed by Michael Haggins. The song was originally released on the 2005 album also titled "Daybreak" by the independent label Cuate Records Corporation. Haggins, an American Jazz bassist and song writer, has had his work used in other primetime network programs such as "Happy Endings" on ABC and "Raising Hope" on FOX. On August 28, 2012, Megan Ganz tweeted that Michael Haggins had visited the set of Community. A possible cameo by Haggins was speculated but did not occur. The tweet also revealed that Daybreak is Abed's favorite song.
  • According to Chris McKenna on the Season Three DVD commentaries, "Daybreak" became a running gag because the licensing fee to use "Roxanne" in "Remedial Chaos Theory" ate up most of the Season Three music budget.
