Gillian Jacobs is an American actress who portrays Britta Perry on Community. On October 19, 1982, Jacobs was born to Martina Magenau Jacobs and William F. Jacobs Jr. in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A mixture of Irish, Scottish, German, and French heritage, she grew up in the suburb of Mt. Lebanon. She took her first acting class at age eight and while growing up, she studied at the Pittsburgh Playhouse on weekends. Gillian began her career in local theater in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania from a young age until high school. As a member of the Pittsburgh Public Theater and was cast in a production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream." After graduating from high school in 2000, she applied to acting programs at Carnigie Mellon (where her mother worked in alumni affairs) and Julliard, as well as Harvard. She was accepted into all three programs, but ultimately decided to study at the Julliard School in New York City. She graduated from in 2004 with a bachelor's degree in acting and in 2006 starred in an off-Broadway production of "Cagelove". She also appeared in off-Broadway productions of "The Fabulous Life of a Size Zero" (2007) and "Little Flower of East Orange" (2008). Jacobs later found roles on television where she guest starred on "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" and "The Good Wife". She also appeared in the films "Gardens of the Night" (2008) and "The Box" (2009).
