|The Ivory toupee is a hairpiece first worn by Pierce's father Cornelius Hawthorne. Normally a toupee is supposed to blend realistically with a persons remaining hair to conceal the baldness. In Cornelius' case he wanted everyone to know what he was wearing and chose a hairpiece that was garishly obvious. He took great pride in the fact that it was made without any ethnic contributions and more importantly that it showed off how rich he was. The hairpiece's first appearance was in the Season Three episode "Advanced Gay".|
|In the study group's third year together at Greendale, Pierce's father Cornelius Hawthorne came to school intent on stopping his sons plans to market Hawthorne Wipes to the Gay community. His racist attitude coupled with his ridiculous appearance immediately made a bad impression when the study group met him. Dressed in a white suit and wearing an ivory toupee on his head, he was mocked by Jeff. Cornelius proudly explained that he wore the item not just to cover his head but as a symbol of his racial and financial superiority. Later, Jeff accidentally caused Cornelius to have a heart attack in the school health center which led to the elder Hawthorne's death. At his funeral, Pierce gave Jeff the toupee explaining that the terms of his father's will clearly states whoever killed him got to have it ("Advanced Gay").
|The Ivory toupee was last seen several months later. It was being worn by Troy who somehow came into possession of it. Troy wore it on his head incorrectly after an all night play session he and Abed had in the Dreamatorium ("Urban Matrimony and the Sandwich Arts").
