James "Jim" Rash is an American actor, comedian, producer, and director. He was born on July 15, 1971 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Rash has one sister and they were both adopted. He attended Charlotte Latin High School, spent a post graduate year at college preparatory institution Lawrenceville School and later went to the University of North Carolina. He started his acting career on local stage productions before pursuing roles in Hollywood. He found steady work making appearances on 1990's sitcoms such as "Cybill", "Becker and "Clueless". He also got movie roles in films such as "One Hour Photo", "Slackers" and "Minority Report". While continuing to appear on television in various parts he landed a prominent role in the 2005 Disney film "Sky High". He also had a recurring role as "Fenton" on "That 70's Show". In 2009 he was cast as a supporting character Dean Craig Pelton on "Community" and was eventually promoted to series regular. In 2012 he won an Academy Award-winner for co-writing a screenplay with his comedy writing partner Nat Faxon based on Kaui Hart Hennings' novel of the same name.

Jim Rash gained some brief notoriety at the 2012 Oscar ceremony when he won an award for "The Descendants". Actress Angelina Jolie was a presentor for the ceremony at the time and was wearing a dress that prominently showed off her right leg. When Rash was on stage with his partner Nat Faxon to accept his award he struck the exact same pose Jolie did in her dress much to amusement to the audience in attendance.
