While attending the University of Michigan, she was editor-in-chief of The Michigan Every Three Weekly. She later interned at Mad Magazine in New York and eventually moved from that to The Onion where she served as an assistant editor before being promoted to associate editor. She decided try her hand at television writing and left the East Coast for Los Angeles where she become a writer for a Comedy Central sketch show called "Important Things with Demetri Martin". In 2010, she was hired to write for Community.
