The "Paintball gatling gun" was a weapon that City College brought with them when they infiltrated the Greendale campus. They used it to participate in the school's Paintball Assassin game. It possessed overwhelming firepower far superior to the Paintball pistols used by the Greendale students. Its first appearance was in the Season Two episode "A Fistful of Paintballs".

History[]

In the study group's second year at Greendale, a Western themed paintball game was held on the last day of school. It was sponsored by "Pistol Patty's Cowboy Creamery" who offered the winner a grand prize of $100,000. The business was eventually revealed to be a front for Dean Spreck and City College used in an audacious plan to destroy Greendale. Spreck and his City College Storm Troopers were smuggled inside Pistol Patty vans and infiltrated the school. It wasn't until after a paintball professional Spreck hired was eliminated that they made their presence known. They brought with them a trump card, a Paintball gatling gun . It's first victim which was Ben Chang who got shot multiple times with the weapon. The gun served as a focal point of Spreck's attack on the school and he positioned it on the campus quad inside one of the vans ("A Fistful of Paintballs").

After a number of Greendale students where taken out by both the gatling and the troopers, the remaining players banded together to form an alliance. One of the students, Jeff Winger, decided to lead a squad on a mission to capture the gatling gun. Unfortunately, the gun and the accompanying guards proved too formidable. The assault failed and Britta Perry ended up being the only survivor. It was then that Shirley Bennett arrived on the scene driving a Campus security patrol cart. The patrol carts windshield provide excellent cover as the gatling operator uselessly fired away. The two ladies made a final run to take out the gatling eliminating several of the troops along the way. Upon reaching their destination, Shirley spun the cart into a hard left allowing Britta to shoot the gatling operator eliminating him and the gun from the competition ("For A Few Paintballs More").

Trivia[]

The paintball Gatling gun's design was modeled after a M61 Vulcan cannon. The version seen on Community is a custom made paintball marker created by Rick Galinson. He is a teacher from the Stan Winston School of Character Arts and also an Animatronic Effects Supervisor. Galinson got a patent on his gatling gun after going through several different versions. This can be seen on his Youtube channel which document its development. The video on the right shows him demonstrating it on May 22, 2011 at the SC village paintball park in Corona California.
