The popularity of the song and the music video made Hawthorne Wipes a gay icon. Although Pierce was angry at first, he soon changed his mind after he discovered that the gay community was a potential untapped marketplace for his product. Urbana was asked by Pierce to attend "The Gay Bash", a party held at Greendale in the cafeteria. Urbana was not only there to perform but also to help Pierce launch his new gay-themed line of Hawthorne Wipes. Urbana asked Pierce to join him onstage to thank him for the event, but an appearance by Pierce's father and owner of the company, Cornelius Hawthorne, put a damper on the festivities. Much to Urbana's dismay, Pierce publicly announced that Hawthorne Wipes would cut any ties to the gay community. After Pierce's father unexpectedly passed away, Urbana attended the funeral and was later seen leaving with Sgt. Chang ("Advanced Gay").
