Vaughn
Vaughn
Vaughn Miller was a student at Greendale Community College. He is an avid hacky sack player and musician and is often seen around campus engaging in both activities. Something of a hippie stereotype, he's often barefoot and shirtless with a chill and laid back disposition. A quirk of his is that he has a tendency to greet and say goodbye to people three different ways. He used to date Britta, but it ended badly which led to him writing a break up song about her. He later became interested in Annie, eventually dating her despite initial objections from Jeff and Britta. His first appearance was in the Season One episode "Social Psychology". He is portrayed by Eric Christian Olsen.

Character history

In the study group's first year at Greendale, Vaughn was a fixture in the campus grounds often seen playing Hackey sack with his friends. On one such occasion he noticed Britta passing by with Jeff and waved to her. Vaughn later met up with Britta at the Hot & Brown and they were seen to be having an animated discussion much to Jeff's annoyance. Their conversation was interrupted by Jeff and after Vaughn was formally introduced to him he lectured them both on the benefits of Green tea versus coffee. Afterwards, Vaughn and Britta were seen making out on the campus lawn by Jeff and Shirley. Britta wanted Jeff to be cool with her new boyfriend and invited him to have lunch them. Later in the cafeteria, Jeff pretended to be fascinated when Vaughn discussed his volunteer work at an old age home where he organized games of ultimate frisbee. When Britta left to get desert, Shirley showed up and started making fun of Vaughn behind his back.

Jeff struggled to keep a straight face as Shirley got Vaughn to remove his shirt and mocked how tiny his nipples were. Some time later, Vaughn wrote a love poem to Britta and she became apprehensive about how fast the relationship was developing. She shows the poem to Jeff to get his opinion, unaware that he was feeling jealous of Vaughn dating her. He subsequently showed it to Shirley and then later to the rest of the study group. When Vaughn walks in and sees them mocking it, he immediately ends things with Britta. Devastated by the violation of trust, he went to the campus quad to meet up with his Hackey sack friends. When he failed to intercept a hack sack bag one of them sent his way, Vaughn apologized. His friend told repeated Vaighns personal motto of "No worries" in response only for Vaughn to correct him and tell him there are "Some worries"("Social Psychology").

There are some worries
There are some worries man...some worries.
When Vaughn was next seen he was still bitter towards Britta. Pierce attempted smooth relations between them but ended up joining Vaughn's band, "Some Worries" instead. Together they collaborate on a song which they perform at the student lounge with the rest of the band. Entitled "Gettin' Rid of Britta", it becomes a huge hit in campus much to Britta's chagrin. Upset by his the song negatively portrays her, Britta confronts Vaughn about it while he is practicing with his band in the music room. However, her objections are the least of Vaughn's concerns when he and Pierce have an explosive argument over the writing credits for the song. He storms out of the music room firing Pierce from the band. He then rewrites the song with another student named MC Dan Harmon into "Pierce You Are A B" and performs it at the "A Night Under The Stars" music festival on the campus quad. Vaughn later discovers Pierce collaborating with M.C. On a rap response to his song furthering the animosity between them ("Home Economics").

No Worries portrait
"Getting rid of Britta was the hardest thing to do..."
In Romantic Expressionism, Annie reveals to Britta that she likes Vaughn and asks for her blessing. Britta gives it to her and later informs Jeff. Jeff tells Britta that Vaughn is a "gateway douchebag," and Annie shouldn't be dating him because she's still pretty young. The two hatch a scheme to break them up by getting Troy to like Annie. Jeff describes to him "a complete stranger who happened to be in their study group," and Troy sees Annie in a whole new light. He later flirts with her in the cafeteria, and when Vaughn sees what's going on, Annie reveals that she previously did like Troy but is over him now. Because a similar thing happened when he asked about Britta's feelings towards Jeff, Vaughn declares that their study group is evil and storms off. Annie asks Troy why he would do something like that, and he tells her about his conversation with Jeff and Britta earlier.

Annie Vaughn
Doesn't this just make you sick?
Annie rushes to the library and tells Britta and Jeff how super cool and mature they are for getting involved in her love life, adding that since they're idiots, she should let them know she's being sarcastic, making them feel bad. Britta reveals that she didn't want Annie to date Vaughn because he was mean to her, and that Jeff is probably jealous that Vaughn was kissing his debate/make-out partner. Vaughn later meets Annie and the study group just outside of the study room building. When asked if he received Annie's voice messages, he says that he threw his phone into the river. Vaughn explains that if he couldn't call Annie and be with her, he didn't see a reason to have a phone. He then sings her "Annie's Song," a song that he wrote about her. Britta tells Annie that she doesn't care if she dates Vaughn, and she'd actually prefer it. Annie agrees and runs to hug Vaughn.
